Dragging the file to the trash can should free up space on the drive as a result. Have you tried formatting it in the Disk Utility, and see if that recovers the lost megabytes?

Please follow these instructions to format your Flash device using OS 10.

1. Select the "Finder"
2. Select "Applications"
3. Select "Utilities"
4. Select "Disk Utilities"
5. Select the flash device i.e. Flash card, USB Drive etc
6. Select "Erase"

If this process does not resolve the issue, please post back here for further assistance.

Re: Windows 7 Blue Screen with new 8GB on Abit In9 32X-max

To rule out the memory, or alternatively to verify which one of them it is that's causing the problem, test them one at a time in slot 1 on the motherboard. If they all pass, then install one of them in slot 2, and run the test again. Then move that module to slot 3, and so on until you have tested all four modules and all four slots.

If you have a bad module, we will replace it per the terms of our warranty. You can either contact our Customer Support department or use the links on our RMA page to request an exchange. Be sure to use the proper link for your location, and reference this thread so they can see the troubleshooting you have done.

One of the Gizmo's recently purchased in a 4 pack seems to have a problem. Looking at it in XP Disk Manager, it has a 1.12 gb partition and a 2.61 gb partition. I can not delete the partitions to create a single one, and I can not Format the 2.61 partition. Any suggestions as to how to proceed? Thanks!

Re: Maximum ram capacity for Dell XPS 420?

I also have an XPS 420 and want to upgrade to 8GB of system memory. Crucial's web site is saying that all XPS 420s can only be upgraded to 4GB total memory. BUT Dell's manual for the machine indicates that the maximum is 8GB (all usable if you have a 64-bit OS). Link and excerpt from the documentation is below.

Link: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xps420/en/OM/HTML/parts.htm#wp1462641

Click on Memory then scroll down to see the info. This is the first time I have seen disagreement between Dell's documentation and Crucial's info. Now I am confused. :-) What's the truth? Win 7 64-bit runds great on my machine but I want some improvement editing video and the 4GB in it does not appear adequate as far as Adobe Premier Elements 7 goes for a 4 minute video. Hmmm.

Addressing Memory With 8-GB Configurations

Your computer supports a maximum of 8 GB of memory when you use four 2-GB DIMMs. However, the amount of memory available to the operating system is less than 8 GB. This is because certain components within the computer require address space in the 8-GB range; and any address space reserved for these components cannot be used by computer memory.

NOTE: 8 GB memory is available only if you ordered an operating system that supports 64 bits. If you ordered a system that supports only 32 bits then the memory available is 4 GB.

Bonjour,

Seth-01

Yes, I bought two of these: BL25664TR1608

http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=BL25664TR1608

Currently, the computer is stable with one stick of memory in the first memory slot, with timings of 9-9-9-24 at 1.5V, which for the short term I can live with. If I increase the memory voltage to 1.64V and restart, the motherboard throws an error for power issues and reverts settings to previous values.

My processor is configured as 333x8 to get it's 2.66GHz, which also times the memory to 1333MHz, which is also fine. It would just be nice to use all 4GB. When I finally get around to it, I'm going to buy two sets of CT2KIT25664BA1339 to get my 8GB.

Ballistix memory fails to work in ASUS P5E-WS Pro Workstations. I installed 8 GB of 2 different types of Ballistix memory modules in 2 brand new MB. Both experienced intermmittent crashes, data corruption, OS failure over a period of 4-5 months. RMA'd MB's to ASUS, replaced drives, reinstalled OS'....ran complete burnin diagnostics. you ge the picture. Finally I just bought new memory; Crucial memory. Once installed and Ballistix was removed these systems have run continuously for almost 6 months without a single failure.

I would NOT recommend this memory ..buy something else.

However, I would recommend Crucial..they have been great !!! they took back all of the memory and credited my account !

Re: memory question

Forgot to credit Lee Penrod at Directron.org about the clock speed vs. memory data rate. If you decide to do the upgrade, there is a fine tuning issue. It did not matter when all 4 modules were identical 512, but with mixed sizes it might make a difference which slots. Probably it's worth consulting motherboard manual or ASUS, since for some Intel boards their manual advises putting one matching pair in slots 1 and 3, the other in 2 and 4. That way the faster 2 channel mode is obtained, otherwise only single channel, although all the modules work either way. The Intel boards colour code the slots such that one pair is blue, the other black. There is a thread on this forum that also might help: http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Standard-DRAM-Memory/Ram-not-shown-in-slots/td-p/4570;jsessionid=43D8C4755EB17196FEDEF74C8C9F8092 One might think, why not get 4 x 1GB to simplify, but there seems to be a problem that the 4th GB will not be even half used because a 32 bit O/S needs the upper addresses for its own use and one would need a 64 bit O/S to use all 4 completely, and the 64 bit O/S, although faster, tends to need twice the memory of a 32 bit. Possibly I have this garbled but your 3 GB choice seems a sweet spot .

Hello all,

Ok I have read through the thread on the OCZ forum that shows how to improve write performance if its dropped with the latest firmware i.e. 1819 or as OCZ call it 1.4

http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64659

I tried all of it and it works for about an hours then my writes go from 185+ mb/s to about 120+ mb/s.

Now I have seen that is I run the freespacecleaner Check the box to write FF's and pick the SSD you want to clean.

and let it run then I get my performance back up to 185+ mb/s.

This seem to last until I write data back to the drive then the performance goes down again.

So what I do at the moment is run the freespacecleaner program with the checkbox ticked and then don't write to my drive.

Also note that if you run a benchmark on the drive like atto then the first run is fine, but then the second run how the lower write speed, so don't run the benchmark software at all on the drive.

Let hope the new firmware will resolve the problem. Or I am going back to version 1571

You can use IDE or AHCI as long as you use the drivers that come with Windows and don't install any 3rd party AHCI drivers. There shouldn't be any real world difference between the 2 on an SSD though I suppose any mechanical drives still in your PC might benefit form the NCQ support in AHCI.

Trim is active in Windows 7 for all drives by default - it's simply ignored by most, so technically it doesn't matter whether it thinks it's a hard disk or not. The only difference is whether it disables certain services or not. You can check the appropriate services by following these instructions: http://www.forum.crucial.com/t5/Solid-State-Drives-SSD/SSD-Tweaks-for-vista/m-p/4913#M748

It would obviously invalidate your warranty and I believe (from certain people being unable to flash on OCZ's forum) that they check the name string of the drive before flashing. So you'd have to edit the file in a hex editor before doing so. It would take a brave man to flash a bios he's edited himself onto a product this expensive!

Hello,

I own a Crucial SSD M225 64 GB and I have some questions about it. I browsed through the forums but I did not find definitive answers to them.

I am using Windows 7 Family Premium 64 bits. I installed the latest bios on the M225, the 1819, before installing W7. I formated the SSD during W7 installation.

In order to maximize the drive speed, do I have to enable the AHCI controller or can I just use "IDE" controller?

If I use "IDE", will the trim function be enabled automatically?

As Windows 7 seems to be "SSD aware", do I have to deactivate anything like files indexation or automatic defrag as it is suggested into some tutorials about SSD with XP or Vista?

Is there any way to be sure W7 is seeing my M225 as a SSD and not as a usual hard drive (and thus activating trim)?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Regards,
Philippe

So no one has tried flashing alternate firmware yet then I take it?

Just wondering, as I have thought about it myself for testing purposes since they all come from indilinux

Can you give me a link to your exact model of memory here at Crucial? I assume you need more voltage than 1.5V

Re: SSD Tweaks for vista

To an extent it depends how regularly you load stuff off the mechanical drive. Superfetch loads into a memory cache your frequently used programs. If they're that frequently used you probably want them on your SSD? Certainly anything used during your Windows startup should be.

I for instance have Windows, all my apps, my docs and Warcraft on the SSD. And just keep media and less frequently used games on the mechanical drive. None of which would need cached. If I had the 128gb i'd be keeping whatever are my latest and currently played games as well as wow on there!

The same applies to Drive Indexing. If you keep documents you need indexed on the mechanical drive then I guess it's best to leave Windows Search service running and just disable Drive Indexing on the SSD. You can do this by right clicking the drive in My computer and unticking "allow files on this drive to have contents indexed...". Will take it a while to do this though.
