8GB in "Late 2008" Macbook Pro?

I have a 2.53GHz Macbook Pro. It's the last model that Apple officially caps at 4GB. The 2.66GHz model they replaced it with caps at 8GB.

My understanding is that this is indicative of the testing that Apple did, and doesn't represent an actual cap.

Before I drop several hundred dollars on 2 4GB sticks, I'd like to find out if anyone at Crucial or any customers have had an opportunity to test whether or not the full 8GB works in this model.

Model Name: MacBook Pro

Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,1

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor Speed: 2.53 GHz

Does it work with 8GB? Does it recognize and use the full 8GB?

Do tell!

Unfortunately we cannot recommend any more than 4GB for this system as this is what the manufacturer specifies.  Unless Apple or any other users can confirm otherwise you will have to stick to this amount.
