Re: Dear crucial - Why do you continue to ignore your customers?

I'll be happy to continue helping you. I would like to mention though, that given the complexity of the problem you will probably reach a resolution a lot faster if you call in and talk to one of our Technical Support agents.

If you prefer continuing this discussion on the forum, it would help me a lot of I know the make and model of your motherboard, and the BIOS revision you have installed. Without that information we don't even know for certain if you have a motherboard the modules are compatible with.

I'd also like to know which settings have you tried the modules with so far, both voltage and timings? Are the 1066 parts running more or less stable, more or less hot?

I still wanted to believe.

Well I have used Crucial since Pentium 4 Northwood switching from Corsairs however I have lost faith in Crucial' s DDR2 RAMs. When my 330 dollar DDR2PC8500 failed me then I questioned my decision on the Ballistix over the Dominator. Instead of trying another manufacturer, I went with Crucial again for the replacement. Again, new kit of DDR2 PC6400 fails me. I tried 3 RMAs yet I already hate waiting for a replacement which do not even guarantee that it is going to work. Yes, I know and I have done RMAs with other manufacturers such as Asus, MSI and etc however Crucial is the first one that I had to deal with in terms of RMAing RAM ( I have used from Corsairs, Kingston, PAtriot, and OCZ) but I never had to RMA any RAM that I have used and never more than once on same product (any computer parts )

Well product with exceptional perfomance is one thing. If the product can not be stable at its rated speed and then it would die anyways in matter of time even when it ran lower than its rated speed for stability. I do not know why I should  even bother to give it more tries.

I am one of those people who would never leave any feedback or posts on forums whether some product was good or bad. I just came here trying to RMA my 4 sticks of Ballistix RAM however after finding out that I was not the only one facing such problem. Now I m thinking if I should even try RMAing my RAM which I once paid over 450 dollars for. Which I never got to use them.

So if I RMA my RAM will I receive refurbished one? is that why I never got working replacement in the past?

Funny last item that I requested rma for was a non computer part ( a 80 dollar 100 sheet stapler ) and they just sent me a new one. I do not understand how refurbished would actually be a RMA solution for highly sensitive conductive product as RAM. If that is true I find it very dissapointing.

Re: Dear crucial - Why do you continue to ignore your customers?

Jody21,

How a situation with multiple Ballistix RMAs in the same system is handled depends on the circumstances. There is a very large number of different factors that can contribute to problems with Ballistix memory, and the solution varies from case to case. To run the Ballistix modules at optimal performance, your entire system configuration will need to support certain settings or configuration values. Some system configurations may not operate at the published Crucial Ballistix memory speed and timing settings at all, and may revert to industry-standard or system defaults.

If we find there is an incompatibility with a specific motherboard or BIOS revision, we will either remove it from our Crucial memory advisor or will post BIOS revision notes in our tech support database for future reference.

Re: Dear crucial - Why do you continue to ignore your customers?

It seems we need to clear up a small misunderstanding with regards to Ballistix replacement parts. When we replace parts under warranty you may receive "functionally equivalent new or serviceable used parts" – this means that we guarantee the parts we send out meet the same specifications as the ones they replace, and we back them with the same limited lifetime warranty.

When a Ballistix module comes to our lab on an RMA, it is thoroughly tested to ensure it meets its rated specifications. If it does not meet these specifications, we will scrap it - it will not be "repaired" and sent to a customer.

We appreciate all feedback and encourage you to share it with us.  If you are dissatisfied with any Crucial product or service, it’s best to contact customer service, as they will be more than happy to assist you on a one on one basis.  The Crucial Community is designed for users to help each other and themselves, sharing ideas, tips and best practice – so please keep all posts on the forums appropriate and constructive.

Well then, why don't you take it to a friend's computer and try them out? Or take it to a computer repair shop and have them test the sticks. Also if you replaced your motherboard with another just the same it's possible said motherboard model might have issues with this RAM.

Some motherboards are rather picky about the RAM sticks and/or its timings/subtimings.

Who shops online for parts that need to be system checked elsewhere before they are put to use?

Who likes to pay more for Crucial brand naming only to find out that their motherboard is a stickler for details?

You run the little active X thingy, crucial scans your system, you get a recommendation, you pay a little more and you're set. THAT is the concept for those of us who don't have the time or desire to jack around with settings on a bios menu. This is the one place where it is supposed to be hassle-free.
