PC8500 no longer running at 1066Mhz

Hey,

I purchaced two sticks of PC8500 Ballistix DDR2 1GB Ram, the light show was impressive and it bummed up my board FSB speed to 1066Mhz, cool. However it no longer runs are 1066, its down to 800 FSB, and when I run Crucial memory scanner it shows the ram as PC6400.

The only thing holding back the the FSB on my board is the RAM, the CPU is a Quad4 with 1066 FSB and the mother board supports it as well, but I can't figure out what happened to it, now that it runs at 800FSB.

Any help would be great.

Re: PC8500 no longer running at 1066Mhz

Hi Brimestone,

Could you confirm the full part numbers you have?

Has anything else changed in your system i.e. have you made any modifications recently?

Please check that the following settings are set within the BIOS and that the latest version of the BIOS is installed.

Speed: 1066MHz or DDR2-8500

Timings: 5-5-5-15

Voltage: 2.2v (if you part number ends with 1065) or 2.0v (if your part number ends 106A which is the newer revision)

Try the modules individually in the first slot with these settings, if both modules will run at 1066MHz with the above timings, then try them in dual channel mode.

If both modules are having issues running at this speed individually, it sound like its more of a set up issue than a problem with the modules. If that's the case, please include full details of the system in your next post (i.e.. Processor, power supply, BIOS revision… etc)

You can also test the modules using Memtest.

Please let us know how you get on.
