So I have had my Crucial M4 128GB drive since October 2011 and it has 2016 power on hours.
Just recently I experienced the following:
1. Windows froze, or at least I could not interact with any windows or launch task manager but I could move my mouse cursor around.
2. BSOD and reboot.
3. On boot received the message "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media". Pressing the reset button would just return me to this message.
4. Power on and power off would boot Windows successfully or pressing F8 while booting would also allow me to boot (not sure why this would work).
Sometimes I can go for a few hours before encountering the issue. I have the latest firmware 040H. With regards to my setup I have an additional 256GB M4 SSD and a DVD drive. My motherboard is a MSI P67A-GD55.
Any help, advice, or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds as my story...
First I recommend to look in the drives SMART logging if there are some errors.
The tool "GSmartControl" is available in a ZIP and need no installation (only unzip and run).
It has an GUI to view the output of the smartmontools "smartctl" (also in the ZIP), the SMART data of the drive(s) .
In the original output (device information tab / button "view output") you can find the errors of the selected drive (if some occurred).
Use gsmartcontrol-0.8.7-win32.zip, it has a actual version of "smartctl".
If you can't run your OS from the SSD you can boot from Parted Magic Live CD.
On this live CD is also GSmartControl.

Thanks for your reply. If this happens again I will be trying your suggestion. I just opened up the PC and swapped some SATA cables round made sure everything seemed to be in order. One of the cables seemed a little loose. We'll see if that makes any difference but I doubt it. I'll let you know if it happens again and I use your suggestions.

So swapping and re-seating the SATA cables seems to have fixed the issue for me. I haven't experienced the issue again

If you run into the issue again Phorersis, you can try the new Firmware revision 070H for the 2.5" Crucial m4 SSD.
