I doubt you'll have much choice! MS don't want you using ATA security, they want you using eDrive.
I don't think Crucial have developed any supplementary software outside of firmware updating.
I haven't read the source code, but I presume it boils down to sending some industry standard commands to the drive? Much like those you'd be dealing with if you did do a secure erase.

Yes, the tool issues commands to the drive as documented in the TCG OPAL specification.
There is allways the chance that there are errors in the tool or the drive firmware that can cause a problem but noone has reported any up to now.

Has anyone tried Seagate's SeaTools?
Its suppose to work on non seagate drives and in the manual I see a section for SED Crypto Erase which asks for the PSID.

I think it doesn't work on Crucial's drives. It didn't work for me and as far as I know it didn't work for one more user that has been trying it.

I'm getting this message -
Wasn't sure how to get the bug code or w/e. Trying to get the Secure Erase is Parted Magic to work but it says "This routine can only be run for disks supporting the Security Mode feature."
Looking for any help, Thanks.
