M61PME-S2P reading only 800mhz for this model of RAM CT2KIT25664AA1067

CT2KIT25664AA1067 memory from crucial (which is 1.8v RAM) is reading only at 800mhz but it's 1066mhz RAM. The maximum it will clock up to is 800mhz on the BIOS.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Motherboard : GA-M61PME-S2P(rev. 1.0)
--------------------------
M/B Rev : 1.0
BIOS Ver : f7a
Serial No. :
Purchase Dealer : MicroCenter
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
VGA Brand : Nvidia      Model : 6800GT
CPU Brand : AMD      Model : AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core      Speed : 3.2 ghz
Operation System : Win 7 64-bit      SP :
Memory Brand : Crucial      Type : DDRII
Memory Size : 4GB      Speed : 1066mhz
Power Supply : 400 W

I've tried gigbytes "easytyune" versions 5 and 6, 5 has any type of speed adjustments grayed out (I don't have energy saver software) and 6 doesn't even load, just crashes in windows. BIOS shows max memory speed when adjusting manually at 800.  Help!

What do you have the memory speed set to in your BIOS?   You will need to use SPD automatic settings, or manually configure the speed as 1066 is not a default speed it has to be manually set or by pre-programmed settings.

Just to verify, what speed shows in CPU-z Memory tab (not SPD Tab)?  And what speed do you have set in the BIOS currently?

CPU-Z

Easytune 5+6 are not compatible with your board that is why you have issues with those.

Thanks for the reply. It's set at 800mhz (the maximum available setting) when I attempt manual, and at on AUTO I get readouts of 800mhz. So, manual versus automatic settings doesn't seem to have an impact. I've even toyed with the "hidden" (by pressing ctrl+f1)FSB manual clocking options in the BIOS with no effect on memory speed options manually or an increase when set to automatically. DRAM frequency shows as 401.9 mhz. Here's a link the the readout. http://imgur.com/vDFjW

OK, so the highest memory multiplier you have only allows 800Mhz, the only way you can use 1066Mhz then is if you raise the FSB meaning you have to Overclock the CPU to raise the memory speed, otherwise you can only run 800Mhz.

What's the magic number for the FSB to be for me to get 1066mhz out of the RAM, or the related formula? The highest I think I was able to get the FSB to was 220 or so without the motherboard kicking it into bios "safe mode" and telling me to lower it again, and this was on the lowest CPU multiplier of 5. When I did that, I still only had the option for 800mhz out of the RAM.

You'd have to show me an image of your BIOS, showing the memory multiplier options.   It's normally FSB x memory multiplier = memory speed, but since you mention it's not increasing you may not be able to adjust it as it may depend on what memory speed your CPU supports.

I'll have to grab your manual and look when I get home later, I'll let you know what i find.   In the meantime google around about your CPU and see if it has a memory speed limitation.

I couldn't find anything that stated I had a memory speed limit for my processor.

I found these reviews, stating the X2 260 raised support from the 255 CPU to 1066 for DDR2 and 1333MHz for DDR3, that is the CPU you have correct?  They mention pushing to 1600MHz anyway, so I don't think it's the CPU

I'll check in your BIOS, if you are here now I'll be back to edit this in a minute.

*Edit*

OK, I checked your BIOS and I see you do have the option to set memory clock to 1066, and you may not even need to overclock the FSB (I'm not sure as only you can test that since I don't have one of these boards)

If images are too small to view, follow the links.

Change "Set memory clock" to manual.

Then change "Memory Clock" right under that to 1066

I actually have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+. Here's a picture of the CPU-Z readout.  http://imgur.com/kukCP
