You need to go into your bios (usually by pressing Del just after turning the computer on) and change the hard disk controller to IDE. If you don't know how to do this you will need to consult your manual or a Lenovo forum because it varies from computer to computer and I'm not that familiar with laptops!
Then you need to upgrade the firmware, then go back into the bios and change the hard disks back to what they were (probably AHCI). You have to change it back after the upgrade otherwise Windows will be unable to start.
