Just got my new Crucial 128GB SSD. However it is not being recognised in either Disk Management or the bios.
I have tested all the connection cables so they are not the problem. Help please. Using Win 7 by the way!

Hi bogbrain,
What is the make and model of the system are you installing this on? And what mode were you in during install IDE/ AHCI?
First thing to try is reseating the drive, then make sure that you have the latest version of the BIOS and motherboard/ chipset drivers installed.
Is it possible to try the drive in another system? It will help determine if its a problem with the drive itself or possibly compatibility.

Win7 64bit and IDE (still confused as to whether ACHI is necessary for ssd and will it affect the other drives). Returned the drive to Scan and got a refund, bought an Intel which installed perfectly. I managed to get the 256GB crucial ssd and once again it is not being recognised in any of my computers. Does the three small pins at the end of the sata connector have anything to do with it? At the moment the midle one has a white cover on it?

So... I moved the jumper and the disk is recognised as "YATAPDONG BAREFOOT-ROM ATA DEVICE" but I am unable to format it. Moved the jumper back and it is once more unrecognised. What is going on?????

Well, tried it out in two other computers and still no joy. It is very odd that the SSD's both Crucial are doing this and yet the intel installed without any problem. Oh and also tried out a friends OCZ Vertex which also was recognised perfectly. As no solutions have been forthcoming I have resorted to returning it to Crucial as an RMA.

Had a similiar situation with my 256gb Crucial. Didnt show up anywhere. Finally figured out that the drive had to be initalized first.
I used Diskmanagement in vista to initalize. Start, Run, type "diskmgmt.msc",enter, click continue in UAC enter. See if the drive is listed on the left side with a red X in the block. If it's there, I think that it will say offline. If it's there, right click the block with the red X and click initialize. Then do a format and you should be ready to proceed.
Anyway, it worked for me.
Good luck
Stephen

Nope..already tried that. The drive is simply not recognised in the bios, disk management or my computer. The only time it does show up is as that Bilbong thing and then it is totally is totally inaccessible! So going down the RMA route!
