My Crucial M4 512GB drive started acting "weird" since a couple of weeks ago when it was used as an external disk for my MacBookPro, it would randomly dismount and sometimes writing to disk was not possible.
I thought it was my Mac problem but the situation got even worse when I attempted to reformat it using "Disk Utility" in Mac, it would just end with error message "unable to format". Finally I was able to reformat it when connected to Windows 7 in "Disk Management" but after using it for a while, the random dismounts started again and finally now it's not accessible.
Disk Utility on Mac wouldn't detect it and even though Disk Management on Windows 7 shows it as an "Not initialized - Unallocated", when I attempt to initialize it, I just get "request could not be performed because of I/O device error". At first, I thought it was my USB2.0 and USB3.0 external disk enclosures that are creating the problem but other drives (different brands, different speeds) all do not have the same issue. I even connected the drive directly via SATA, but still getting the same error, which leads me to suspect something is wrong with the Crucial SSD M4 512GB.
Time to RMA? Only bought this drive 2-3 months ago.

Just got exactly the same thing.
This started happening and i could no longer copy file to or from the disk. Decided to restart Win 7 and now the disk is no longer even accessable.
My drive is about 2 months old and only had it connected internally via SATA.

Hello,
I had the same behavior, with my M4 512GB.
the issue had arrive also 2/3 month after the first use. I update the firmware and use it for a couple of month.
But the behavior had arrived a 2nd time.
Now I didn't know what to do.
