Hi
Trouble is that we cant even see the drive in disk utility - hence there is no way to format it installed in the internal Sata bus! It is possible to follow theese steps when the drive is installed in an external enclosure or in another older mac model but not in the Macbook Pro 13". ![]()
Regards
Jon

It seems to me that this could be true. I have just mounted the same SSD drive in an 2. generation White Macbook. Booted perfectly - and rebooted. So it seems Crucial are not alone in this mess.

So if I could downgrade my EFI to 1.6, these new drives would work?

I haven't had any issues with [various generations of] MacBooks and these M225 drives besides the potential for inserting the drive upside down. This of course would result in Disk Utility being unable to see the drive... since it's essentially not plugged in. ![]()
Always remember to flip the drive over if you find it doesn't appear in DU. Not appearing in DU means no hardware communication at all. It could be quite easy for someone to think there was a serious problem and not realise the drive was incorrectly inserted. Even an expert, especially replacing the logic board might not have remembered which way the drive was inserted prior to take-apart for logic board replacement.
I've been working with an Apple Authorised Service Provider for over ten years and I'm certified up to ACSA level.

There is a a huge thread on the official Apple forums about this issue. It is related to the EFI 1.7 firmware and requires a firmware downgrade or logic board replacement until Apple release new firmware. This does not just affect Crucial drives.

I realize it is frustrating not to hear anything official from Crucial on this issue, but for now, all I can share with you is that we are aware of your posts here and the issues you are reporting, and we have forwarded all relevant information to our performance testing lab. This is unfortunately not a problem with a quick and easy solution, so we expect that it will take us a little while to find one.
As soon as we have any official updates we will make the new information available to you. We appreciate your patience on this matter.

Just to finalize my old post with good news. I changed the SATA cable in my MBP 13" and behold. Suddenly the M225 is recognized in both EFI 1.6 and 1.7. Add to that - I have been running for 10 days without a single crash! I off cause still have the much more common EFI 1.7 SATA II problem with beach balling but no more crashes and no more problems with invisible drives. Bought the cable from iFixit online.
