One more speed-disappointed newbie .. Why?

Just received my Crucial M225 128GB.

Installed Windows 7 RTM x64, updated Windows Update and Lenovo Power Managing.

Hardware: Lenovo X200, Intel C2D P8600 2.4Ghz, 3GB RAM, ICH10 - SATAII (300).

Disabled Superfetch, Defrag, Indexing. Installed Intel Matrix driver, made first benchmark (A)

read the forum, thus reverted back to MS storage drivers, made second benchmark (B). Both firmware 1571.

I expected anywhere near the announced 190 MB/s sec. write speed. Does this look normal/expected?!

Oh, and BIOS is configured as OHCI, if it makes a difference.. should I have used IDE mode ?!

EDIT: And... should you just use C_wiper every day,.. or should I be more reluctant to use it?!

I cant really find any user manual for the tool..?

Try Atto. Crystal records the write speeds lower than other benchmarks.  And no you shouldn't use wiper everyday as it'll add unnecessary write cycles to the drive and SSD's have a limited number of 10,000 rewrites.  The same applies to benchmarks, satisfy yourself that it's fine and then use the drive as normal.  You don't have the firmware that may cause performance problems so I'm sure it's fine. :smileyhappy:

I can't tell you how often to use wiper because it will depends on your driver usage. Theoretically when you've written and subsequently deleted an amount of data to your drive that equals your free space I guess.  Or in reality when the drive feels slow to you - and to give you a clue I used mine in 1571 from new for 2 months and never once ran it!

Oh, and stick with the MS drivers, you'll find your life easier when you upgrade to 1819 as the intel ones don;t support Trim.

Hello Target,

Thanks a lot. Just tried Atto, and get Write: 180, Read: 260. So im perfectly happy.

Any word on using IDE compared to AHCI? Generally its just all the same?

Pretty much no difference. AHCI provides a performance enhancing feature for mechanical drives called NCQ that theoretically will not affect SSD's.

Thanks.

If you come by some test or reviews or whatever that compares the two, you are most welcome to post a link.

But again, thanks a lot.
