Hi Brian,

I appreciate your frustrations and concerns.  However this community is a place for users to help each other out it is not a Crucial support channel.  Crucial moderators are present to oversee the community and manage posts as necessary and will respond to posts that have been left unanswered for a certain period or as needed.  If you would like to speak to us directly you can use one of our three contact methods; telephone, email or live chat where one of our agents will be happy to assist you.

The firmware was released with install guides and our support team provided additional help to those who contacted us directly just like other users helped each other out for those who chose to come here for advice.

I understand a lot of users may be waiting for updates from us and as soon as we have information we will post it here.  I have requested updates from the lab regarding performance issues and also a wiper tool for RAID users and will post back as soon as I have this.

I do apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your feedback and patience in this matter.

Thanks , I'll await your update regarding Wiper for RAID-0 systems.

As an update...I contacted crucial support directly...and they have replied saying that their lab is evaluating the provision of an idle-time garbage collection firmware...no promises we wioll ever get one, but at least they are actually looking into it! :smileyhappy:

That would be awesome!  Trim is a good idea in theory but GC seems to overcome most of the problems people have.

Cleanup for raid users, cleanup for users with drive controller drivers that don't support trim (like me :smileytongue: ) and a lot of people suffering with slowdowns form the trim firmware seem to report better results with the GC firmware over at OCZ.

Re: Question: Is there an issue with 1819 FW causing write speed performance problem?

I posted some of this in the raid thread but some of it is relevant here too.

There's a wiper program on OCZ's forum called AS Clean which I assume is by the guy that did AS SSD though it's not on his website yet so I can't link it.  The procedure to run it is meant to restore performance in the Trim firmware by doing the maintenance tasks that the GC firmware does and the Trim doesn't.

The basic procedure is to download Perfectdisk 10, which is a new version - apparently SSD friendly.  You then get Perfectdisk to perform an aggressive consolidate free space defrag on the SSD.  There's a free 30 day trial of perfectdisk and for anyone wanting to try it you get to the aggressive free space consolidation option by highlighting the drive and click the drive properties button.  You follow this up with AS Cleaner making sure that Check FF's is ticked.

But it totally destroyed my read and write performance (down to 60/10) and I had to do a wiper to recover it.  However, what is interesting is the wiper following this procedure recovered the drive to top performance - 230 read, 155 write on a 64gb. I've never seen my writes that high!

Some observations.

As the AS Cleaner killed the performance and wiper recovered it I wonder if the AS bit is a redundant step if you're going to wiper anyway.  Could be worth someone trying perfectdisk followed by wiper. as it's the consolidation that the GC firmware does over and above the trim firmware and wiper

This is raising the interesting point that perhaps SSD's do need defragged, either in the firmware or by compatible software.

When I ran wiper on my bartpe disk it took seconds after the above precedure rather than the usual minutes. So either the defrag or the free space wipe greatly helped wiper out.

Who knows how long the performance will last?  People have noted any performance recovery steps they take see the drive deteriorate pretty quickly afterwards.

Re: Question: Is there an issue with 1819 FW causing write speed performance problem?

Saw your post last night Target about the process to speed up raid etc. and tried it. Worked fine, back up to speed OK, certainly beats splitting the raid and all that goes with it. I have backflashed the Crucial to 1571, the Vertex still at 1.41, so will wait and see how long the speed is mantained. Usually fades after 3 or 4 days, and about 35% down after a week, (Wtites).

Thanks for the heads up. :smileyhappy:

A post by OCZ on their forums states that Indilinx are now aware of how to reproduce the performance problem so hopefully a firmware fix will be inbound to sort it out!

Yes, OCZ has acknowledged there is a problem. They have reproduced it and sent the information to Indilinx. I hope there will be something soon. In the mean time, their solution is for people to use their Garbage Collection firmware instead of the TRIM one. Of course, we don't even have a garbage collection firmware yet.

Aftering seeing how much support the OCZ people get I regret getting the Cruical SSD. OCZ keeps it's user base in their forums fully up to date with what's going on. It's sad I have to go over to a competitor's forums to get the information I need for my SSD.

Unfortunately, these things are really expensive, so I can't just go out and buy a new one. I guess we all just gotta wait around in the dark until OCZ and Indilinx gets things fixed and then it will eventually trickle down to Crucial. I suppose I could sell mine and buy a new one. Oh well.

Time to stare at the clock again!

I can't exactly go linking to a rival companies forum can I? :smileyhappy:  Hopefully Crucial will receive the information about it from Indilinx and can post here about it themselves. :smileyhappy:

Are you serious? There is no rule that says you can't post links to other companies. *keep it courteous*
