Re: Status update: Firmware upgrade

Don't forget that the Firmware that OCZ are releasing seems to be completely different to that which Crucial have stated they are releasing....

OCZ's version has Idle-time Garbage Collection built in (as stated on their forum), whilst Crucial have said they are not including it (idle time GC) until they have investigated the impact on drive performance/reliability/life etc...that would seem to suggest that the firmwares have to be different :smileywink:

I'm not so sure. OCZ have said they are releasing 2 versions. 1 with GC (1.41), 1 with TRIM (1.40) ... so I would assume Crucial were given the option and choose 1 rather than the other.

Re: Status update: Firmware upgrade

I saw that as well, hopefully Crucial does the same so that us RAID users can make our own choices about things.   Otherwise if they release only the TRIM version we will all be left out until Intel catches up the drivers

Re: Status update: Firmware upgrade

The Intel 9.5 drivers have leaked.  I don't think anyone has tested trim yet but it's a heck of a version jump and the product itself has been renamed from Matrix Storage to Rapid Storage Technology so it's obviously undergone some major changes - hopefully including Trim.

Re: Status update: Firmware upgrade

I don't really care if it's GC or TRIM, but I'd like them to release which ever works the best with Windows 7 since that is what I will use on it.  Hopefully they will release both versions as to give users more options depending on their OS.

Anyways, I ordered my  64GB M225 drive last week and it should be here today or tomorrow, but I am very disappointed there is no word about firmware updates in the last week.  I find it strange and I am generally very concerned about this lack of communication between end users and the firmware developers.  I opted with a Crucial based on their reputation for high-quality products and high-quality customer service I really hope my drive doesn't sit in the box more than a week... if it does, it's going back for a different brand.

Looks like this is the case, but they've only released them for Vertex so far.  I'm more hopeful that Crucial will get us these updates soon

Feedback on their forums looks like so far people are very happy.  Some have reported faster speeds too

Re: Status update: Firmware upgrade

No real surprise that OCZ has released their new firmware updates first.
