Re: Status update: Firmware upgrade

Well perhaps they could tell us this, rather than other forum users simply speculating that this is the issue.

Re: Status update: Firmware upgrade

A little info goes a long way and helps stop speculation

Surely they're are not so busy as to be able to put up a simple update ?

Re: Status update: Firmware upgrade

Where do you get that only testers should be using W7?  I pay a good price to Technet-Plus (TNP) for a subscription so that I can have an OS that is not going to expire.  I have been using W7 RTM for about a month now, as have been many TNP and MDSN subscribers, while my Crucial ct64m225 (with fW 1571, by the way) sits idly by awaiting the fw upgrade just in case the fw upgrade is destructive.  I just want the latest firmware available and was led to believe that it would be released yesterday.  Don't give bogus time lines, if you do not expect to have complaints when they are not met

Re: Status update: Firmware upgrade

The problem is, they're in a no win situation.

If they release it after a long while people will complain they haven't got it yet.  If they release firmware quickly and it's broken people a lot of people will complain.

If they try not to give an eta people will complain they're ignoring us.  if they give an eta and miss it, as in what has happened here, far more people complain than were doing when they gave us none.

Also, just so you know, Technet IS for testing only.  :smileyhappy:

MSDN is for development only, neither are intended for home use.  I'm a programmer but I'm also currently using an MSDN copy on my home machine in re-arm mode that i'll activate next Thursday with my retail key. :smileyhappy:

Re: Status update: Firmware upgrade

Do you really think they dont WANT to put an update out?  It looks to me that if we (the forum users) behave ourselves differently, it is far more likely Crucial's (MANAGEMENT) would be more willing to provide information and guesses.   And, quite frankly that is why i made my first post anyway.

I like most of the rest am relying on this forum for information for planning my work.  As a support technician though, I am also well aware of the interdependcies that must be at stake here.

Unfortunately I dont believe there is much more we will hear from Crucial, now, except that the firmware is "POSTED" and available, given where/how this thread has degraded.

I guess thats the "hope" in my posts.  If they are unable to tell us it is "available" now, it would help me to know it is likely to be available on such and such a day.  I'm hoping that a tonal change in the thread might encourage them to give me such information if its not "soup yet".

Re: Status update: Firmware upgrade

Technet is for testing and is free.  You cannot download W7 RTM (that is Release To Market), only the betas and the Release Candidates from Technet.

As I stated, I have a Technet-Plus subscription that costs over $450.  I do have the right to download and install the W7 RTM..I realize that that is less than 1/10 the cost of a MSDN subscription (I have 3 programmers that report to me for whom we buy MSDN licenses).

I would read your license carefully, I believe that you can legally install one license for personal use.  If not, at least you have the option of activating with the retail key.

From the Technet site: "TechNet Plus gives you the freedom to evaluate the latest Microsoft software"

"Microsoft software licensed for evaluation purposes. Evaluate full-version commercial products without time limits or feature limits"

It's purpose is for IT Professionals to test out all MS's new stuff and decide what's worth deploying throughout your company as well as obtain premium support from MS.  I know a lot of people use it as a way to get discounted access to a load of Microsoft software because it says it has no expiry but it's not meant for that.

The same way with the developers one you get a complete version of say Exchange so you can develop for it. You're not allowed to use it as your companies mail server but there's nothing physically stopping you doing so.  Though they do allow you to use 1 licence of Office for general purpose use with MSDN.

But we are pretty far off topic here!... I was merely trying to point out that sfruae's observation regarding those who should currently be using Windows 7 is actually fair.
