Hi Imran,
Ultimately it is up to you and your needs. The main feature of the new firmware is the TRIM function which I believe is not yet supported on OS X or Snow Leopard. However, there were also some bug fixes which you can find detailed here .
Many other users have successfully updated the firmware on their Macs and are happy with the results, while some report performance decreases but this could be down to individual hardware configurations. Have a look at the thread below for their experiences which may help you:
