Hope someone can provide some advice for me.I am running Windows XP with 512mb of RAM.My PC is getting slow despite using one or two freeware programmes which were supposed to speed things up.
I decided to add some more RAM. The Crucial scan recognised my A-Open motherboard and recommended the appropriate 184-pin 1GB memory which is now on order.
Having read up on how to instal this my plan is to take out the 512mb which should be in slot 1 and instal the new 1GB in that slot.I will then instal the 512mb in slot 2 giving me 1.5GB RAM in all.
Can anyone tell me if this is correct and, equally important, will it work?
Any advice will be much appreciated.

There are issues that arise from using memory from two different manufacturers. Some are just not compatible with each other, even though they work independantly on the board. But, unless there are mechanical differences like each stick having a different voltage, you should be fine. And always put the larger/faster memory in the slot closest to the CPU. Good luck. If you run into any snags, reply back for help! ![]()

Many thanks for this and also thanks to Jamie Campbell of Crucial who responded to a separate enquiry.I ordered the module on Saturday 14th November and received it early on Tuesday 17th--well done Crucial.I fitted it on Tuesday afternoon.I had changed graphics cards on other PCs but never worked on my current PC which was put together for me by a chap who lives around the corner. It was a bit fiddly `cos I didn`t want to disconnect anything but I managed it.On boot-up everything stopped dead at the Windows XP screen so I re-booted and got a lot of text which essentially asked me if I wanted to start Windows safely.I accepted this and everything thereafter was normal.PC is much much faster and the cost of the module was money well spent.
Kind regards.
Peter Hubbard.
