I have a mini tower with only 2 dimm slots. I took out 2x256 DDR PC2700 333MHz cards and replaced them with 2x1GB DDR PC2700 333MHz cards. No matter what I do, the PC beeps at me and won't do anything else. From what I have reserched so far, the sequence of beeps tells me no RAM is recognized or incompatible. Not sure how that is possible. Any ideas??

When you say no matter what I do, does that mean you get the beeps even if you put the old memory back in?
The most common cause of the issue you are describing is improper seating of the memory. When you install new memory, make sure the clips at the end of the slots close completely on their own. To get this to happen, you have to press down on the memory with a good 20 to 30 pounds of pressure. If you helped the clips close, give this a shot, and get back to us if it does not resolve the issue.

That's the only way it will work with the old memory back in. A friend of mine mentioned the seating and I tried it, but I will try it again. I will let you know how it goes.

One other thing to look at too if the same thing happens is to try the memory one at a time alone in the system. If you happen to have one bad stick, it will prevent the system from booting even if the other stick is perfectly fine.

Tried that and still no dice... Evidently I am the lucky one who got 2 bad sticks ![]()
