I have 2 Acer laptops, both are of the Aspire 5100 series, I wanted an upgrade for my 5103wlmi and bought the 2x2GB (CT585802) as recommended by the Crucial System Scanner. After fitting in accordance with the instructions the laptop fails to start I get the on light and the hard disk light flashes as if booting but eventually stops, no display at all just a blank screen. Tried them one at a time in either socket and with one of the original 512MB DIM's nothing at all. Refit the original memory and the laptop is OK.
I rang Crucial help line and was advised to update the system BIOS which I did, no change in the symptoms, I have tried contacting Acer via their website (after 2 weeks I am still awaiting a response of any kind), I have searched long and hard for advice on the Crucial site and the internet so far nothing useful. I have also tried them in my other Acer Aspire 5102 and get the same problem.
I am running out of time to resolve the issue inside the 30 day returns policy, it is unlikely that both of the new DIM's are faulty, I am desperate to upgrade my laptop. Any advice would be appreciated.

You might want to retry contacting Crucial. Your memory may be bad. The only things I can think of that would fit your problems is that either the new memory isn't properly seated (it can be tricky to install into laptops sometimes), or that there is a density issue with the memory. If you're certain that the memory was installed correctly, then you should contact Crucial's Customer Support again.
