My Compaq Presario SR1053WM stipulates that the Max memory is 1 GB (2 x 512 MB) but you say 2 GB

The product information I have on my Compaq Presario SR1053WM desktop PC stipulates that the maximum memory allowed is 1GB.  The motherboard is an ASUS A7V8Z-LA, Compaq motherboard name: Kelut-GL6E.  I currently have 512 MB of memory installed.  When I did a Crucial search for memory for my system I was told that I could install 2 GB, 1 GB per slot, Part #: CT368938 DDR PC2700.  Which is correct? Of course I would like to add as much memory as possible.

Thanks

Hi JimW,

All the information I can find on this HP model and even the motherboard shows it can support a maximum of 2GB (1GB per slot) but it is possible the manufacturer released different versions.  Where did you get the information about the 1GB capacity?

I would suggest trying the 1GB upgrade, as installing larger memory cannot damage your system- it would only show as half the amount, and if this is the case you have a 30 day moneyback guarantee.
