eeePC 900

bios 0704

Just installed a 64gig SSD (CT1002966) and a 2 gig ram card. Will only boot correctly in Safe mode or DeBugging mode.  When booted normally the desktop loads then the intro .wav starts but becomes a BUZZ and the screen becomes totaly corrupted ? ? ?

 My existing 4gig C: drive is IDE  SM and the old 16gig  D: drive was SS but your new drive is PM is this a problem

 Any ideas ? ? ?

Hi

 Seems to be a memory fault - With the new 2GIG ram installed if the power cable is removed the screen becomes garbage instantly - with the original 1GIG memory installed a PopUp appears saying Battery Mode . . . No Screen problem.

 Does this mean the memory is faulty ?

I've never heard of memory affecting the display.  I would imagine faulty memory would cause a bluescreen.

I know laptops tend to use shared system memory but I would have thought it'd still have enough dedicated memory on the graphics chip to handle the display and system memory would only be used for textures in 3d applications.

You could test the memory using memtest86 which runs from a dos boot disc: http://www.memtest86.com/

Might be best to repost your question in one of the memory forums.

Thanks for the advice - definitely something to do with memory - Have "chatted" to Crucial person and updated Bios to 1004 and checked video driver is latest (it was) but no change. She seems to think it may be something to do with the FSB changing speed on Batt/Mains but eeeCTRL reports no change when I Plug/Unplug with the default power regime.

Have you tried setting your system to Performance mode in your video and power settings?!
