Standard DRAM Memory

I have an "Intel D865GLC" Motherboard, with upto 4gb RAM,

Had 2 1gb and 2 512mb Ram installed, but then my system started freezing and then not booting.

Tower would make all the right noises fans harddrive and disc drives all kicking into life, but monitor failed to start.

So I removed all but 1 512mb ram stick, everything worked fine, so cycled through all ram and they all worked, but as soon as I paired them up, failure again.

But I can have 2 ram sticks in but not paired, if I have all 4 sticks in unpaired, then pc starts, but reboots after the intel page flashes up, (after the moment to press F2 for bios)

What could be wrong? and how to fix it?

Are you certain you're trying the pairs in their respective slots?! Did you make sure to install the new memory in the slots closest to the CPU?! If the system boots with both sticks of a pair (kit), have you tried running MemTest86+ to verify the memory is good?
